What does Dongli mean?

Dongli means: the place where chrysanthemums are planted.

The word "Dongli" first appeared in Tao Yuanming's Five Songs of Drinking: building a house is in a humanistic environment, but there are no chariots and horses. What can you do? The heart is far from being self-centered. Picking chrysanthemums under the east fence, you can see Nanshan leisurely. The mountains are getting better and better, and the birds are back. That makes sense. I forgot what I wanted to say.

This recluse work established Tao Yuanming's position as a recluse and the founder of pastoral poetry. Among them, the most picturesque and widely spread is the third joint, "Picking chrysanthemums under the hedge, leisurely seeing Nanshan". The word "Dongli" has since taken on the poet's own emotional color.

Dongli image in ancient poetry

"Dongli" is named after "picking chrysanthemums". Chrysanthemum, with elegant appearance and proud autumn frost, is the spiritual sustenance of noble people. Qu Yuan has a famous saying, "Drink Mulan in the morning and watch chrysanthemums at night." In Mr. Wu Liu's drinking, chrysanthemum is not only noble, but also secluded. "East Hedgehog Chrysanthemum" has since become a classic, and it has been handy for poets who have the heart of seclusion.

However, "Dongli" is slightly different from other fixed images. Because of its commonality (fence), later poems are often used. When the poet uses this fixed image, he not only uses the seclusion of Mr. Wu Liu, but also brings his own feelings. In this way, the meaning of "power" will be more and more, and it will be used by more people.
