Extended information:
"Mountain Rain" is a seven-character quatrain composed by Weng Juan, a poet of the Southern Song Dynasty. The first two lines of the poem describe the scene before the rain, and the last two lines imitate the scene after the rain. The poem has a unique conception and a strong interest in life, which embodies the poetic characteristics of the "Four Spirits of Yongjia".
The title of the poem is "Mountain Rain", but I don't start with the rain. Instead, I start from outside the title and try my best to write about the sunny weather. The poem says that throughout the night, the moon shone in the forest and the stars twinkled in the sky. The poem fully describes the sunny day, and also adds the word "one night" to emphasize that it is like this throughout the night, but the poet still feels it is not enough. Furthermore, this night not only was the stars and moon shining brightly, there was not even a trace of cloud, and no thunder was heard.
This second sentence complements the first sentence and is written from the visual and auditory perspectives respectively. It describes Wan Qing very firmly and cannot be changed. The third or fourth sentence suddenly changed, saying that at dawn, I saw the rushing water in the stream, so I knew that there had been a heavy rain in the mountains beyond this mountain. These two sentences are also written very definitely. They form a pair of contradictions with the previous two sentences. They are unexpected and the poet's surprise is strongly expressed.
The poem writes about rain, but it is not written from the front. It is strange that there is no sentence about the rain; the first two sentences not only do not write about rain, but describe sunny, which is even more strange. The wonderful thing is that the poem describes not just ordinary rain, but rain in the mountains, which is even more surprising. If it were on the flat ground, the poet would see dark clouds and lightning in the distance at night; because it was in the mountains, he could only see a piece of sky above his head and not the mountains outside the mountains, so the poem could be written about the clear sky and the scenery in the mountains. The next morning, I made a fuss on the stream and unified the two extremely contradictory scenes into a small poem. Yongjia Siling's poetic skill lies in this unexpected conception, and at the same time he injects a strong interest in life into the scenery.
