Based on his works, this paper discusses the artistic characteristics of Dai Wangshu's poems.

Dai Wangshu's poems focus on drawing lessons from and skillfully using symbols, metaphors, synaesthesia, empathy and strange conceptual connections. His poems are often implied and expressed by images and symbols. My Memory and so on. The bird in heaven symbolizes a poet who pursues happiness tirelessly. In my impression, the "subtle * * *" falling into the deep valley, the "small fishing boat" heading for the misty water, the sunset and the ancient well all infected the poet's loneliness. In the poem "Sunset", "the distant mountains cry purple" is a synaesthesia technique. Poems such as "Don't go to the garden today, loneliness is as high as me" in Loneliness, "I am a young old man" in Outdated, and "I am gently hung in your hair" in Night all show strange conceptual connections. Whether it is the contradiction between "youth" and "old man", "tenderness" and "hanging", or intangible "loneliness" and tangible "height", the poet has found a deep internal connection, which not only gives people freshness, but also enhances the connotation and tension of the poem, making it more intriguing.

After the Anti-Japanese War, Dai Wangshu's poetic style has changed greatly. The ideological connotation of poetry is more social, emotional, natural and clear, and realism has been further strengthened. The Wall of Prison and I Break My Palm are the representative works of this period.
