Jerusalem is located at the top of Judea, 790 meters above sea level, and it is one of the centers of ancient religious activities. Judaism, Christianity and Islam all regard this city as a holy place according to their own religious legends. The city circle covers an area of about 1 km2 and is divided into four districts.
East Jerusalem is a Muslim area, including the famous temple area. The holy places in the temple area are: Yanding (Islam) and Yanding Temple (Islam), Al-Aqsa Mosque and wailing wall (Judaism). In the northwest, there is a Christian parish and a church of the Holy Sepulchre of Christ. In the southwest is Armenia. In the south is the Jewish parish. Mount Zion in the southwest of the city is another important holy place in Judaism. The Mount of Olives in the east of the city has holy places of Christianity and Judaism.
After World War II, Jerusalem was administered by the United Nations. 1948- 1949 Israel occupied the west of Jerusalem and established a new city, while Jordan occupied the old city east of the city. 1967 After the third Middle East war, Israel occupied the whole of Jerusalem and declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 1980.
The exact origin of the name Jerusalem is uncertain. In Hebrew, the name yelushalaim can be understood as a compound word of Yelusha (heritage) and shalom (peace). Another common explanation is that it combines the names of two cities in the Bible: Jebus and Salem (meaning "peace"). The name Salem appeared in Genesis 14. This is the residence of Melchizedek, the high priest, who blessed Abraham who came here. Jerusalem is called "the city of peace" because Jerusalem means "the cornerstone" or "the city" and Salem means peace.
What is the relationship between New Jerusalem and Jerusalem? New Jerusalem, literally a paradise on earth, is a religious shrine. In essence, it is actually a place, just like Jerusalem, but with different expressions.
