American poet. Born into a candy merchant family in Ohio. Misfortune has been with him since childhood, and his parents' divorce has brought him a great blow to his body and mind. 19 16 lived with his mother in an orchard in southern Cuba, intoxicated by the desolate nature, which provided rich materials for his early poetry creation. Poor life made him poor, addicted to alcohol, bohemian and family-oriented, which also caused his eccentric personality. Crane began to write poetry at the age of thirteen, published his works at the age of seventeen, and by the age of twenty, he was already an experienced poet. After Eliot's The Waste Land was published, he didn't agree with it, so after 1924 settled in new york, he was going to write a Bridge to answer it. This poem imitates the form of The Waste Land, examines the problems of modern big cities from the front, and tries to create American myths from literature, history and traditional images. The whole poem connects the two parts of new york with the whole country through symbols such as Brooklyn Bridge and Railway, and connects the present and the past, and moves towards the future through it, interweaving vague hopes and disappointments, but avoiding contemporary social and political issues. After the publication of the long poem, there was little response. This new belief did not make the poet live bravely. Social collapse, economic depression and personal misfortune finally made him desperate and committed suicide by jumping into the sea on his way back from Mexico to the United States. The poetry of cranes is fantastic, colorful, sometimes bizarre and difficult to understand, trying to express the spirit of modern cities. As an explorer of "city image", Crane still enjoys a high reputation in the United States. His main works are White House (1926), Unpublished Poems (1972) and Long Poetry Bridge (1930).
