Zhao Shuguang joined Shantou Song and Dance Troupe in 1971. At that time, he studied dance, and for eight years, he skipped folk dance and ballet. Zhao Shuguang said: "I learned a lot during that time, and I also got a physical condition that I can express myself freely on the stage." Later, Zhao Shuguang also performed many plays, and many old Shantou audiences may still remember his roles clearly, such as Xiao Lizi in The Younger Generation, Chenguang Zhao in Blooming Youth, Boy Boy and Teddy Boy in Sentinel under Neon Lights, etc.
So, what caused Zhao Shuguang to fall in love with comedy sketches? "I used to love to fight when I was in the song and dance troupe. People joked that I was a' one-stop'."
