Li Shangyin's epic themes are mostly taken from the historical facts of the loss of the Sui emperor in the Southern Dynasties and the change of Ma Su in the Tang Dynasty, which shows many negative lessons. Seven Tunes of Sui Palace is one of the representative works.
Yang Guang, Emperor of Yang Di in Sui Dynasty, made great achievements in his early years, but he indulged in debauchery in his later years and became a famous dissolute monarch in history. One of the policies that harmed the people in his later years was "three visits to the south of the Yangtze River", which, coupled with the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, led to the exhaustion of national strength, boiling resentment among the people and finally national subjugation. The poem Sui Palace is very eye-catching. This Sui Palace refers to various camps built by Yang Guang in Jiangdu (the "Wuhu City" in the poem, now Yangzhou, Jiangsu). Yang Guang lived in the Sui Palace and died there. The emperor's excessive amusement, debauchery and corruption will inevitably lead to the end of physical death and national destruction, which is a painful lesson of history. Monarchs in the late Tang Dynasty, such as Zunzong and Wuzong, were also dissolute and ruthless. The poet summed up the lessons of the demise of the Sui Dynasty in order to sound the alarm for the rulers at that time.
The first couplet points out the theme and explains the trip of Emperor Yang Di. The word "lock" stands out. The resplendent Chang 'an Palace was abandoned for no reason. I wrote the sentence "I want to take it" for my southern tour. According to historical records, there are more than 40 construction camps along Nanyou Road. Zhuan Xu wrote about Yang Di's indulgence. Poets usually describe them with typical details. For example, in another four-line poem, Sui Palace, there is a sentence that "the spring breeze cuts the palace brocade all over the country, half as an obstacle and half as a sail". The United poets innovatively integrated allusions, replacing the description of specific details with argumentative virtual deduction: generations will not change, and the sail boat will never stop until it reaches the ends of the earth! "Japanese friendship" is not only the use of allusions, but also refers to Tang Gaozu's Japanese friendship with Long Ting, which is literally paired with "Tianya". This "false pair" is clever and difficult. "Bak Yan" and "should" are a flowing pair with smooth circulation and internal connection. The All-China Federation is doing the right job, making the code clever, and vividly showing the madness of the view that Emperor Yang Di's death and Jiangdu are to blame. The Neck Couplet borrowed relics to allude to the collapse of the Sui Dynasty and wrote down the desolation of the Sui Palace and the Sui Dyke: Although the Sui Palace in front of us was covered with rotten grass, the "Firefly House" where Emperor Yang Di released fireflies for fun at night was no longer used; Although the weeping willows are evergreen on the Sui Dykes on both sides of the canal, there were no lights on the poplars in the past, but only dusk crows perched on them. The poet generously expressed the feeling that "prosperity is haggard" and leisure cannot exist forever. Both canon facts can be used flexibly, and the artistic conception is ethereal; In contrast, there is nothing in today's place and nothing in the past, full of imagination. Therefore, Fang praised it as "thriving outside the image and living strangely." Tail couplet controls the canon with rich imagination, and expresses it in the tone of hypothesis and rhetoric, thus completing the theme of making the past serve the present. Chen Houzhu lost its country because of its debauchery. After his death, posthumous title was also a "Yang". Two "yang" can be said that he is my brother, which is one of them. Chen Houzhu was captured after the Sui Dynasty and became familiar with Yang Guang. I have the opportunity to meet before I die, and I may meet again after I die to ask questions. Here are two. According to the records of the Sui Dynasty, when Yang Guangyi traveled in the south of the Yangtze River, he dreamed of meeting Chen and his favorite Zhang Lihua and invited Zhang Song and Dance "Yushu * * *", which was the third. Based on this, the poet made a final cold retort. Ji Yun thought that couplets were too embarrassing, but if there was Xiaoying in the empty palace, he would only fly to the Xijiang River ("Moonlit Night on the Spring River"), it was easy and implicit. In fact, the results of the two poems are the same, which is not only a profound mockery of Yang Di, but also contains the implication that "later generations mourn for it without learning, and also make later generations mourn for it" (A Fang Gong Fu by Du Mu), which is a serious admonition to the rulers at that time.
