Seeing that Li Bai could not get through Chang 'an Palace, he gave Li Bai a lot of settling-in money in the third year of Tianbao (AD 744) to go home and enjoy his old age. This is a very decent way to go home. Xuanzong did not drive him out of Chang 'an, but he more or less retained Li Bai's dignity and tolerance.
