The original singer of the English version of "500 miles" is Hedy West.
Hedy West, formerly known as Hedwig Grace West, (April 6, 1938 - July 3, 2005) was an American folk singer, composer and lyricist. Representative works include "500 miles" and so on. British folk musician AL Llody once praised her as "the best American female artist in the folk revival process." In 1962, she became engaged to Roger Zelazny, who would eventually become an outstanding science fiction novelist.
Hedy was born into a musical family and grew up listening to folk songs in his mother's arms. Her father, Don West, was a chamber of commerce organizer and a Southern poet, and some of his poems became the inspiration for her songs. In comparison, her grandmother Lillie Mulkey West and her uncle Augustus Mulkey had a particularly strong influence on her. The latter was a famous local fiddle player, and Lillie was an excellent banjo player. Under her influence, Hedy He even picked up the five-string banjo.
The English lyrics of "500 miles" are as follows:
If you miss the train I'm on (If you miss my train), You will know that I am gone ( You should understand that I have left), You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles (you can hear the whistle blowing a hundred miles away).
A hundred miles, a hundred miles, A hundred miles, a hundred miles, You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles (You can hear the whistle coming a hundred miles away).
Lord I'm one, lord I'm two, lord I'm three, lord I'm four Miles, four hundred miles), Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home.
Away from home, Away from home, Away from home, Away from home, Lord I'm five hundred miles away from home (God, I'm five hundred miles away from home).
Not a shirt on my back, Not a penny to my name, Lord I can't go back home this a-way. Go home), This a-way, this a-way (so embarrassed, so down and out).
