The difference between Zaju and Sanqu

Yuan Opera includes two literary forms: Zaju and Sanqu. Zaju belongs to drama, and Sanqu belongs to poetry.

Sanqu is divided into two styles: Xiaoling and Suite. Xiaoling is a single tune, which is similar to modern lyrics. It is created according to the tune. Each tune has its own name. The number of words and sentence structure of each tune are different. It is often used to describe scenes and express emotions. "Chao Tianzi Chanting the Trumpet" is a Sanqu. "Chaotianzi" is the name of the Sanqu Qupai, and "Ying Trumpet" is the title. Suites, also known as "sets" and "santao", are usually composed of several tunes of the same palace tune. Regardless of their length, the rhyme ends to the end, and usually has an "end". It is suitable for describing more complex content, such as Sui Jingchen's " Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty Returns to His Hometown".

Zaju: such as "The Injustice of Dou E" by Guan Hanqing, etc.
