Jiangyou County was first established in the first year of Xuan Wudi in the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 504). The name of Jiangyou County follows the name of Jiangyou Garrison established by Han Shu regime in the 24th year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 2 19), and the original site is now Nanba Town, Pingwu County.
In the sixth year of Li Zongbao in the Southern Song Dynasty (A.D. 1258), Jiangyou County was moved from Pingwu Nanba to Jiuxianba (Yongcun) in Dakang Town, jiangyou city, and in the twenty-third year of Zheng Zhi, Yuan Shundi (A.D. 1363), Jiangyou County was restored in Wudu Town.
According to the record of places of interest in central Sichuan, it was named "meaning of river water" and "from" to "oil". After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the establishment of Jiangyou County continued, although there were also changes in prosperity and waste.
