Xie Mian participated in the discipline construction of contemporary literature in China, Peking University. Under his influence, he established the first doctoral program in contemporary literature in China-Peking University, and he became the first doctoral supervisor in the school to guide contemporary literature. From 198 1 to 2000, more than ten masters, doctors and postdoctoral students graduated under his guidance. During this period, Xie Mian also accepted the guidance tasks of senior advanced students and senior visiting scholars at home and abroad, reaching more than 100.
From 65438 to 0989, Xie Mian launched "Critics Weekend" in Peking University, where he regularly discussed major or hot issues of China literature and culture in the form of academic salons, which lasted for ten years. Xie Mian is a supporter and practitioner of the concept of "20th century literature". He presided over the 20th Century China Literature Series (volume 10), The Centennial Literature of China (volume 10), and edited the Centennial China Literature Classic Library (volume10) and Centennial China Literature Classic (volume 8).
Xie Mian began to study the history and theory of China's new poetry in 1950s, paying special attention to the theoretical criticism of China's contemporary poetry. 1980, Guangming Daily published Xie Mian's paper "Before the New Rise", which triggered a wide discussion of the new poetry tide and had a positive impact on promoting the development of China's new poetry. 1980, he organized and presided over The Exploration of Poetry, the only theoretical journal of poetry in China. Since then, Xie Mian has been the editor-in-chief of the journal.
Xie Mian's theoretical criticism is based on profound humanistic concern. He insisted on the viewpoint of social and historical criticism and advocated a constructive theoretical critical position.
Xie Mian has published more than ten monographs, such as The Green Revolution of Literature, On Modern Poets in China, The Sun in the New Century, On China Literature in the Twentieth Century (1898: A Hundred Years' Worry), and many essays, such as Message from the Century, Water Flowing Farther, and Forever Campus.
Xie Mian is an honorary member of the National Committee of Chinese Writers Association, honorary vice chairman of Beijing Writers Association, vice chairman of China Contemporary Literature Research Association, full-time researcher and academic member of China Poetry Research Center of Capital Normal University.
20 12 was elected honorary president of China Poetics Research Association in May.
