What are the characteristics of singing style?

Gexing is one of the ancient poetry genres established on the basis of Yuefu poems in Han, Wei and Six Dynasties in the early Tang Dynasty. It was created by Bao Zhao in the Southern Dynasties and the Song Dynasty. Bao Zhao imitates learning Yuefu. After full digestion, absorption and casting, he not only acquired his own style, but also developed seven-character poems and created a seven-character style. So what are the characteristics of singing style?

1, the length can be short or long: Bai Xuege Farewell-Clerk Wu Comes Home has 18 sentences, Du Fu's Hut is Broken by Autumn Wind has 24 sentences, and Bai Juyi's Song of Eternal Sorrow has 120 sentences. There are thirty-seven lines in Du Fu's Chedian and eighty-eight lines in Bai Juyi's Pipa, among which the longest Song-style poem in the Tang Dynasty is Wei Zhuang's Ode to Fu Qin, with as many as 238 lines.

2. Retained the narrative features of ancient Yuefu: the characters, words, comments and feelings are integrated, and the content is rich and vivid. For example, Du Fu's "Car Shop" contains the narration of "pedestrians" when they go out to war, the question and answer between "passers-by" and "pedestrians", and the sigh that "we have learned that it is unlucky to have a son, but it is much better to have a daughter". It's really devastating after reading it. Another example is "The Hut is Broken by Autumn Wind", in which there is a description of the thatched cottage, a sigh of "leaning on the stick", and a remark of "I live in a spacious building, and ... my hut freezes to death alone", which makes people feel sad after reading it.

3, rhythm and rhyme are relatively free: flat and elegant, you can change rhymes. "Gexing" style poetry breaks through the shackles of metrical poetry in terms of meter and rhyme. Because it takes a long time to express feelings and there are many sentences, it is difficult to pay attention to balance when it rhymes to the end. For example, there are some rhymes in the twenty-four sentences of "The Hut is Broken by Autumn Wind". The form of singing style is relatively free, which is determined by the content.

4. The sentence pattern is more flexible, generally seven words: some are mainly seven words, and three words, five words and nine words are interspersed. For example, "The Hut is Blown by Autumn Wind" is basically composed of seven words, but there are also two words ("Alas") and nine words ("Suddenly seeing this house in front of me, it is enough for me to freeze to death alone").

5. They are usually named after Song, Xing and Ge Xing, such as Bai Juyi's Song of Eternal Sorrow, Bai Xuege's Farewell to Tian Li Wu's Home, Bai Juyi's Pipa Xing, Du Fu's Bing Che Hang, Gao Shi's Yan Ge Xing, etc.
