Introduction to The Book of Songs
The Book of Songs is the earliest collection of poems in China. * * * There are 305 poems of the Zhou Dynasty (from the early Western Zhou Dynasty to the middle of the Spring and Autumn Period, that is,1/kloc-0 to 600 years ago, about 500 years ago). Originally called "Poetry" or "300 Poems", Confucian scholars have regarded "Poetry" as a classic since the Han Dynasty, honoring "The Book of Songs" as the first of the "Five Classics". The existing Book of Songs was handed down by Mao Heng in the Han Dynasty, so it is also called Mao Shi.
The poems included in The Book of Songs are said to be the lyrics at that time. According to the nature of music, it can be divided into three categories: wind, elegance and ode. Wind is local wind and wind ballad, that is, folk songs and ballads around the country; Elegant is a formal elegant music, an orthodox court music song; Ode is a kind of sacrificial music song, which is used to worship ancestors and pray and praise the gods in the imperial ancestral temple.
