Ye Wan Collection is the oldest extant Japanese poetry collection, with 20 volumes and more than 4,500 poems. It was edited by many people and written in the second half of the 8th century. It is generally believed that the editor of the existing edition is Nobuyoshi.
The authors of poetry anthologies included people from all walks of life at that time, both signed and unsigned. Persimmon himself, Ichiyama Ichiro, Shimano Yamamachi and others are all famous all-leaf poets. From the content, Ye Wan's poems can be divided into miscellaneous songs, mutual reports and elegies. Miscellaneous songs include poems that cannot be classified into various categories, such as poems written on occasions such as travel and hunting; Wen Xiang is a poem about love between men and women, praising friendship and love. Elegy is a kind of poem mourning the dead. In terms of genre, Ye Wan's poems can be divided into Long song, short songs and revolving songs, among which the number of short songs is the largest.
The appearance of Ye Wan Collection marks the development of Japanese national poetry from an amorphous ancient ballad to a stereotyped chorus. Ye Wan poets expressed people's true feelings in Japanese national language, and created the road of Japanese chorus in later generations. Ye Wan Ji is also an important material for studying the ancient history of Japan and is regarded as one of Japan's national treasures.
