Xuancheng, known as Xuanzhou in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province [58]. Located in the southeast of Anhui Province, it is adjacent to Zhejiang Province in the east, Huangshan City in the south, Chizhou City and Wuhu City in the west, and Maanshan City and Jiangsu Province in the north. Located in the transition zone between the southeast hills and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, it belongs to the subtropical monsoon humid climate; As of 202 1, Xuancheng has jurisdiction over 1 districts, 4 counties and 2 county-level cities. Total area 12340 km2. By the end of 20021,the permanent population of Xuancheng was 2.487 million.
Xuancheng is a millennium county with a long history. Danyang County was established here in the Western Han Dynasty (BC 109), which was called Xuancheng County, Xuanzhou County and Ningguo County in previous dynasties. In 2000, the State Council approved the withdrawal of land from Xuancheng to build the city.
Xuancheng's Four Treasures of the Study culture, emblem culture, poetry culture, folk culture, food culture, religious culture, patriarchal clan culture and other multi-cultures blend with each other, and it is known as "the land of poets in Xuancheng since ancient times" and "the first place for people to go to the river in Xuancheng". Jingting Mountain is known as "the first poem mountain in the south of the Yangtze River". Li Bai came to Xuancheng seven times and left more than 80 poems.
The development of history
Xuancheng area had an ancient civilization in Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Judging from the unearthed ancient stone tools and pottery, it should belong to the Liangzhu culture expansion area in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, the State of Wu rose and ruled the southeast. The more Wu was destroyed, the more Chu was destroyed, and Wu Yuechu ruled Xuancheng area successively.
Qin unified the world and implemented the county system, with Xuancheng as the county.
In the second year of Yuanfeng in the Western Han Dynasty (BC 109), Danyang County was located in Wanling, now Xuanzhou District.
In the second year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (28 1), Xuancheng County was established in Danyang County, and Wanling was returned to Yangzhou. Since then, Xuancheng has always existed as a county administrative region.
