What is futurism?

Futurism is an artistic trend of thought that originated in the 20th century. First appeared in 1908. Italian composer Froccio busoni's book Introduction to New Music Aesthetics is regarded as the embryonic form of futurism. Futurism mainly originated and developed in Italy, but it also influenced other countries, especially Russia.

Futurist artists' creative interests cover all artistic styles, including painting, sculpture, poetry, drama, music, and even extend to the field of cooking. The Italian poet Filippo tommaso marinetti published the Manifesto of Futurism as early as 19 10 to publicize his artistic views. The declaration was first published in Milan and then in the French newspaper le figaro.

Marinetti summed up some basic principles of futurism, including aversion to old ideas, especially to old political and artistic traditions. Marinetti and his followers expressed their passion for speed, technology and violence. Cars, airplanes, industrialized towns and so on are full of charm in the eyes of futurists, because they symbolize that human beings have conquered nature by relying on technological progress.

The influence of futurism

Futurism influenced other literary trends of thought in the 20th century, including artistic decoration, whirlpool, constructivism and surrealism. Futurism, as an artistic trend of thought, began to decline in the 1920s, and now it has basically disappeared. Many futurist artists were killed in two world wars. However, some elements advocated by futurism are still important components of western culture.

Futurism's preference for youth, speed, strength and technology is reflected in many modern films and other cultural models. Marinetti still has many ideological followers. For example, his artistic concept of "human body metallization" has been reflected in the films of Japanese film director Shinya Tsukamoto. Futurism also has an influence on the networked modern society, and the so-called "computer traitor" appears under the influence of Futurism.
