Introduction of works
Chapter 24 of the Youth Journey was written by Wang Wei, and was selected as the first of all Tang poems 128. This is a series of poems with chapters. The so-called couplet is to express a general theme with several poems of the same genre, which are independent and form a coherent whole together. For example, Du Fu's "The First Nine Blocks" and "Autumn Eight Blocks" are famous examples.
Wang Wei's Journey of a Teenager enthusiastically eulogizes the spirit of the ranger from different aspects, showing the unique vigorous spirit in the prosperous Tang Dynasty and the mental outlook, life track and growth process of the social ranger teenager at that time. Each capital is independent and unique, which can be seen together to form a set of poems with complete and rigorous structure. This group of poems shows the bold style and romantic atmosphere of Wang Wei's early poetry creation, and also shows Wang Wei's political ambitions and ideals when he was young.

This poem is about the ranger's expedition to the frontier fortress. The words "being an official in the Han Dynasty" and "a title of generals in ancient times" mentioned in this poem, as well as the words "Five Chanyu" and "Han family monarch and minister" appearing in the next two poems, are all metaphors of the Tang Dynasty's adoption of Han affairs, which is almost a common practice in Tang poetry. It is said that the young man devoted himself to serving the king, and he took up his post at the beginning of his career. Because Yu lives in the guard and is close to the curtain, his position is very important, so he can choose unusual people. "The History of the Later Han Dynasty Geography" says: "Han Xing, a good family in six counties, chose Yu Lin." This can be seen. A title of generals in ancient times refers to the famous Huo Qubing in the period of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty. He has led the army to counterattack the Huns many times and has made outstanding achievements. Teenagers are eager to serve the country and want to contribute to the world. Once something happens to the country, they will not hesitate to go out with the army. The frontier is far and cold, and the battle on the battlefield is even more desperate. The hero "knows that there are tigers in the mountains, and he is more willing to swim in the mountains." This spirit of dedication to the country is in the same strain as the young hero in Cao Zhi's White Horse. He died heroically in the national disaster and died suddenly. The difference is that Cao's poems are objectively described and praised from the perspective of the third person, but here they are expressed in the teenager's own tone: the third sentence is picked up in a self-deprecating tone, which makes the style of writing change sharply, and the last sentence ends in a decisive way, while the function words such as "who", "no", "vertical" and "Shang" are used together. This technique of showing the inner world of the characters with a pen is not only very powerful, but also further deepens the connotation of the "spirit" of the ranger.
