The cultural extension of the Red Cliff Book of Heaven

The name Huangguoshu Waterfall first appeared in classics in the Qing Dynasty. Xu Xiake, a traveler in the late Ming Dynasty, still called it Baishui River Falls in his famous travel diary. It is recorded in "Qian Ji": Baishui River, there are many yellow fruits in the land, so the villages and cities are named after the trees. Li Zongfang, the author of "Qian Ji", was a Jinshi in the seventh year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty. He studied in central Guizhou as the prince Zhongyun. He studied and wrote a poem: Flying snow splashes on the jade-yellow fruit tree, and the red prickly pear blossoms dazzle the eyes.

The flying snow and splashing jade in the poem are of course referring to the waterfall named Huangguoshu, coupled with the strong local flavor of prickly pear flowers, making the poem become a pair of natural couplets.

Couplets are a unique form of text expression in Chinese characters, derived from the antithetical sentences of Shirv poetry. Among the poems about Huangguoshu in the past dynasties, there are many excellent works of antithesis in the form of couplets.

The earliest poem about Huangguoshu Waterfall can be attributed to "Fei Waterfall Spring" written during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It was written by a Tongren scholar named Yang Xiumian. There is a good line in the poem: "Snow milk cools the green green" Wet clothes, crystal beads and foil shine at night.

This poem written five hundred years ago describes the moving scene of watching the waterfall at night with lights twinkling and fantastic sound and light, which makes people vaguely feel the poet's advanced consciousness of traveling through time and space.

Later, the late genius Xie Sanxiu wrote about the magnificent landscape of Huangguoshu Waterfall stretching across the sky. The poem goes: Plain shadows float across the sky, and the cold wind falls from the sky to the Milky Way. Zheng Zhen, a great scholar from Southwest China, expressed the feeling of watching the waterfall through Buddhist scriptures. The poem goes: Five dragons bathing the Buddha in the snow illuminate the sky, and five swords cover the frosty snow-capped mountains. These famous poems are too numerous to mention. Almost all of them can be called a wonderful couple. But it is not a couplet after all. Among the many couplets inscribed on Huangguoshu, there are many wonderful works, such as: The white water is like cotton. No need to play the trumpet, the flowers will disperse by themselves; The rainbow clouds are like brocade, why need weaving to create them naturally? The concept of this couplet is ingenious and the scenery is perfect. The waterfall falls, the white water spreads like cotton, sprays of beads reflect the sun, and colorful clouds and rainbows form themselves. It is really spectacular, with exquisite rainbow shadows, and thousands of galloping horses hidden in Jinsu. On the basis of this couplet, another couplet is developed, which is even more remarkable. Lian Yun: The white water is like cotton, and the flowers will scatter without the trumpet; the red cliff is like fire, and the flames will be high even if there is no salary. The beauty of this couplet is that it has just over 20 words and is actually cast from two famous scenic spots in central Guizhou. No wonder it was appreciated by Yan Yinliang, the famous calligrapher who previously inscribed a plaque for the Summer Palace, and personally wrote the couplet. The white water in the first couplet is both the name of the waterfall and its state of water. Falling from the sky, pouring into the deep pool, spraying beads and pounding jade, there is really no need to spin the trumpet. The white water falling into the pool sprays out in all directions, which is a spectacle.

The red cliff in the second couplet is both the name of the mountain and the color of the cliff. It is a majestic cliff that appears in the sky like a fire. Of course, it does not need the help of firewood. It can also soar into the sky like a flame, among thousands of mountains. It is even more fiery.
