This is a lyric poem based on ancient folklore. According to legend, in ancient times, there was a woman who went to the mountains every day to look forward to her husband's return because he had been away from home for a long time. But many years later, when her husband didn't come back, the woman turned to stone at the top of the mountain. The image of the stone is like a woman looking forward, so people call this stone Wangfu Stone and this mountain Wangfu Mountain. This story originated near Wuchang, Hubei Province today. Because of its wide spread, there are many places where Wangfu Mountain, Wangfu Stone and Wangfutai are expected. In Chinese classical poetry, there are many works with this romantic folklore as the theme. Wang Jian's "Wang Fu Shi" is affectionate and unique among many poems.
