What is the format of English poetry?

Sonnet, transliterated as "Shanglaiti" in Chinese, originated in Italy, where the famous poet Francisco Petrach 1304- 1374 is his masterpiece. This poetic style was popular in the European continent during the Renaissance from 14 to 16 century. It was introduced to Britain in the middle of16th century and became an important poetic style in modern English poetry. Sonnets are neat, short and pithy, with rigorous meter and rich musical effects.

The meter of sonnets mainly includes lines, rhymes, syllables, tones and structures. This paper briefly introduces its content and the evolution of three poetic styles. First, the number of rows. Sonnets require fourteen lines, and each line is not necessarily a complete sentence. Sometimes a sentence with coherent meaning is divided into two lines for rhyme, but the number of words in each line is not necessarily the same.

Second, the structure. Sonnets are generally divided into two parts. The number of lines in the front and back parts of different poems is different. It consists of two quatrains (***8 lines) and two three-line poems (***6 lines). Four-body and sand-body are composed of three four-line poems (*** 12 lines) and one two-line poem (***2 lines), forming a trend of inheritance and integration. At the extreme, there are Shelley's sonnets, which consist of four three-line poems (*** 12 lines) and a two-line poem.

Third, rhyme rhymes. It is one of the difficulties and characteristics of sonnets. Sonnets are based on different styles: 4-5, 6 and 7. English vocabulary is generally composed of multiple syllables. Rhyme refers to the last syllable of the last word in each line, which is called rhyme according to regulations. The rhymes at the front and back of each body are arranged as follows: ABBA. Dad. Cdedcd (4 rhymes) or CDEDCD (5 rhymes) belong to rhymes; Si body belongs to rhyme, abab bcbC cdcd ee, and the last two sentences are antithetical sentences; The sand body is diploid, ababccdcdefefggo.

Fourth, light and heavy Jin Wu collocation. China's metrical poems are quatrains, and each poem requires even lines, making the tone cadence and sonorous. Sonnets do not require the same number of poems per line, but require cadence. Each cadence has two syllables, one is lighter and the other is heavier. Verse and Shakespeare require five cadences and ten syllables per line. It needs eleven syllables.
