The Relationship between Classical Poetry and Tang Poetry

Classical poetry, also known as "ancient poetry" and "ancient style", refers to four-character poems before the Tang Dynasty, such as the Book of Songs, five-character poems (mature in the Han Dynasty), seven-character poems (mature in the Tang Dynasty) and Yuefu poems. After the Tang Dynasty, later generations called Yuefu folk songs, literati poems before the Tang Dynasty and poems written by literati after the Tang Dynasty "archaic poems" after their styles. The syllables and meter of classical poetry are relatively free, and there are no strict and fixed restrictions.
