Forgotten Angels: Cherish the Children of Humanity (Film and Television Review)

Text/Xiao Guanping

————

This film focuses on children all over the world and tells the stories of children neglected by their families and society in seven countries.

These seven short films come from different countries, so they have different styles. The selected objects are primitive tribal children, juvenile delinquents, AIDS patients, orphans, people who grew up in the war, people with broken families and abandoned people.

Children are a vulnerable group and the future of mankind, and should be the focus of attention. However, in real life, adults pay more attention to fame and fortune, but forget that these lovely angels, especially those children who are in famine, disease, war and lack of education, need our care and care more.

Let's talk about my understanding and feelings about the seven short films.

1 tancha (south Africa)

This short film is very short. Armed confrontation between different tribes in a small town in South Africa. Moreover, there are only seven children left in a tribe, and they are forced to undertake the task of gun battle. The captain asked the youngest Tanza to put the time bomb in the school classroom in the hostile village, hoping to give it a devastating blow.

After Tancha planted the bomb, he looked at the photos of his classmates hanging on the wall and listened to the sound of the pointer moving quickly. He couldn't help shivering. He thinks that the upcoming explosion will raze this place to the ground, and all the children will ... stop thinking. He found a table and slept soundly.

The content is a little dull, but the whole conflict is arranged at the end. Because exploring the inner contradiction is the most important thing, and it is also the place to point out the theme.

To a greater extent, this is not a war between two tribes, but a war of all mankind, because every country and nation has kind people and innocent children, and the purpose and significance of the war has become a torture of human conscience. The short film sees the big from the small, which is thought-provoking

2 melancholy gypsies (Serbia)

Named "Melancholy", the film style is not melancholy, but the most comedy of the seven short films.

The whole play is set in the light wind piano and country minor, mixed with the chorus of the juvenile hall and the performance of the "thief" band, which makes people feel happy. But there is a heavy topic behind this happy style.

Ullas, a lovely gypsy boy, was instigated by his adoptive father to steal things, but he found himself living a different life from reality in a juvenile detention center, where he could play football with his brothers, sing Whitman's poems, light matches as stars, watch strange pheasants crow and learn the art of haircut.

When his imprisonment expired, his cellmate told him, "As long as you are obedient, you can do whatever you want here. You can play whenever you want. You can rest at any time. There are rules of the game when you are outside. I'd rather not go out. " He is dubious, which reminds me of The Shawshank Redemption.

He was abused by his adoptive father the day he left home. The injured Ullas came up with a clever plan. He deliberately broke other people's windows, stole money, fled to the gate of the juvenile detention center, jumped into the gate and squatted on the goal net of the football field-"I am finally free!"

This is a satirical short film that expresses the theme of realism in a romantic way. Although the style of the film is humorous and cheerful, and the colors are bright, there is a cold darkness hidden under the veil.

Ullas's adoptive father is just the tip of the iceberg. There are countless such people in this world. He represents the whole cruel reality. As the inmates said, "Everything outside has rules of the game", which is far from as simple as juvie. When they sang the song "Yes, Captain", they didn't expect the real freedom to be in juvie.

This is my favorite of the seven short films.

Children of Christ (new york, USA)

There is no mysterious fantasy, no romantic tone, no use of artistic techniques. This is the most authentic one in this series. Therefore, the requirements for the actor's acting skills have improved. The performance of a family of three is very realistic and natural, which makes people feel that people living in illness are poor and strong.

The melancholy gypsy has a deep connotation, which makes people feel a lot, sad, but not sad. But this short film always touches people's emotions and really makes people cry.

Blanca is an American black girl with black parents. She found her parents mysterious, took medicine every day and often quarreled. Hiding the protagonist, but telling the audience that they all have AIDS, arguing about who infected whom every day, but ignoring the concern for their daughter.

They also made Blanca insist on taking medicine, but didn't tell her the truth. The secret was told to her by Blanca's classmates. From then on, her classmates began to laugh at her, bully her and reject her. Her parents came to the teacher and asked to isolate her. She felt cut off from the whole world because of the virus brought by her parents. She is no longer the girl who used to be so lively and happy and dreamed of becoming a rock star. In her heart, there is a lingering haze buried.

At this time, only her parents can help her. Father and mother no longer quarrel, because they have realized that their selfishness has deeply hurt their precious daughter, and the three snuggled up and cried their eyes out.

Later, her parents took Blanca to the Youth Health Center, where she met a group of new friends who also carried HIV. Everyone regained confidence, respected and understood each other, and left good wishes for tomorrow.

Dedicated to the children who belong to Christ.

4 Biru and Joe (Sao Paulo, Brazil)

The opening is a modern city with high-rise buildings, followed by children riding bicycles in slums. It was not until the end of the short film that the vision was drawn to tell the audience that the slum was next to the tall building. This extremely discordant picture shows the extreme situation of polarization between the rich and the poor in capitalist society.

The story is simple and inspiring. A pair of ten-year-old brothers and sisters in the slum, Bilu and Joe, didn't complain about their poverty or get into bad habits, but worked hard by themselves, rented a scooter, shuttled through the city, collected scrap metal and sold it.

They are very happy because every penny is earned by themselves. They don't feel hard at work, but they have learned the rules of life for a long time. In their spare time, they will play football with drink bottles, play table tennis with waste nails, and take the waste radar home as a treasure.

The money earned by careful planning can only make my sister eat her favorite hamburger. When I got home, my sister naively asked, "Can I still eat French fries?" My brother's answer is: "the money is gone, and I will continue to go out and push the cart tomorrow."

Jonathan (Lake District, England)

This is the most like a movie among the seven short films, because it has vision and fantasy, and the tone is originally British melancholy and cold; When Jonathan fantasizes that he will go back to childhood and become a warm and bright color, the rhythm begins to be carefree; When three naive children ran out of the forest and found there was a war ahead, they returned to their original cool colors.

The theme of the whole play is highlighted by the color change of the focal plane, which shows the cruelty and absurdity of the world, and only some beautiful childhood memories are mixed in it, which euphemistically reveals the reason why Jonathan became a war reporter. The air was filled with smoke and war, and more than a dozen innocent children were trapped under the rubble and did not dare to move. Jonathan quickly captured these shots. ...

He used these memories as a foreshadowing, setting off his awakening from a dream, his anxiety about war and his boredom with professional war reporters. He wants to escape and break free, so when he meets two children who look like his childhood friends, he can't help turning himself into a child and playing with them.

The director skillfully uses the method of double transformation to invert the cause and effect, so that the audience can't guess which paragraph is the cause and which paragraph is the effect, but it makes sense anyway, thus forming a variety of suspense and enhancing the artistic effect.

Obviously, this short film is intended to express the cruelty of war and the fond memories of childhood. Finally, Jonathan's conclusion that "friendship can reduce evil and increase good" is somewhat redundant.

6 "Giro" (Naples, Italy)

Italy is my favorite country. I like the romance and leisure here.

But Naples is a place full of thieves, and Giro is one of them. Unlike Bilu and Joe, who are orphans and nobody takes care of them, he has his own parents. Although we have never seen the couple face to face, we often hear them scold each other and their language is vulgar. Giro, who grew up in this environment, can't be as normal as ordinary children. He went to the extreme of anti-society and joined a thief gang to make a living.

Although he can maintain materially, he can't find a way out mentally. He even began to imitate the scene of swallowing a gun and committing suicide in the wall shadow game of entertaining himself.

Such beautiful Italy, Rome, Venice, Florence, the source of the Renaissance, Milan, Sicily, the hometown of the mafia, and the five major fishing villages all make me daydream.

Only this "sunny and happy city" Naples has been seriously affected by the garbage crisis. Even the movies are not hidden, and there is a lot of white pollution in the playground by the sea.

Giro took the stolen watch to the playground and changed the game currency. He risked his life to get the money just to play the merry-go-round or the Ferris wheel. ...

This is similar to the ending of Bilu and Joe. Adults sometimes think too complicated about children! They just want to eat McDonald's once, or ask their parents to take them to the playground. In fact, Ji Luo is very kind in nature, but he has embarked on the road of crime without the care of his family. The smile at the end explains all this.

He put in a coin, but didn't get on the wooden horse. What is he waiting for?

I think it was his parents.

7 Twins and Kittens (China)

Different from the other six films, this film has two opposing protagonists and adopts the mode of "one family and two respects".

Shuangshuang is a little princess, born rich and versatile, but her parents quarrel every day, and she has never been happy for a day. Faced with her mother's indifference and tyranny, she angrily threw her beloved doll out of the car and was crushed by the car.

Then an old man passed by and picked up the broken doll. It suddenly occurred to him that one day a few years ago, an abandoned baby girl was found in the garbage in the same place.

The girl and kitten are old enough to go to school now. Grandpa worked hard to collect garbage and save money for her so that the kitten could go to school. It is worth noting that kittens are as disabled as brokeback dolls. She is a cripple.

Although it is hard every day, it is actually a kind of warmth for them to live alone and care for each other. Unfortunately, something unexpected happened. Grandpa died in a car accident to pick up a pencil for his granddaughter, leaving only a kitten. She was adopted by a florist who illegally hired child labor, and no one really cared about the kitten anymore.

The interaction between twins and kittens is well arranged, especially the use of contrast and symbol, which runs through the whole play. Grandpa picks up dolls and kittens exactly the same. Their fates are linked, and even the brokeback and lame are coincidentally similar.

And both of them throw away dolls like kittens' biological mothers throw away kittens. Shuangshuang has a group of dolls, but she is not happy and even too lazy to pay attention to them. The kitten has only one doll she picked up, but she takes good care of her hair, clothes and clothes. In fact, a group of children adopted by florists are kittens, and they all have painful experiences. They are like dolls that are ignored and broken by both sides.

When my mother took Shuangshuang out for a drive, she sold flowers to girls. When a little girl asked Shuangshuang to buy flowers, she rolled down the glass impatiently. On the other hand, the pair in the back seat opened the glass on their own initiative (this is also a contrast deliberately arranged by a group of directors), because she found that the doll held by the kitten, the brokeback doll that she once loved but abandoned because of anger, was in the kitten's hand and looked so happy because someone had hurt her.

Both eyes are wet. At this moment, the kitten came up to her and asked her if she wanted to buy flowers. She just said, "She is so beautiful." Seeing that the doll finally found its place, both of them seemed to understand something. The kitten gave her a flower at this moment and they left in a hurry.

If this short film can be made into a movie, this old story can continue. Although the theme is very old, its meaning and the relationship between people are not so simple.
