The cry of apes on both sides of the Taiwan Strait means that the boat has already passed the Ten Thousand Mountains.

It means that the sound of apes on both sides of the strait is still crying in my ears. Unconsciously, the boat has passed through thousands of green mountains.

Early departure from Baidi City

Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty

Chao Ci Ci Baidi among the colorful clouds, thousands of miles away from Jiangling Return the day.

The apes on both sides of the strait can’t stop crying, and the boat has passed the Ten Thousand Mountains.

2. Translation

In the early morning, when the sky is full of morning glow, I am about to embark on my return journey. Looking up from the river, you can see Baidi City surrounded by colorful clouds, as if it were among the clouds. What a gorgeous scenery! Jiangling, which is thousands of miles away, can be returned in a day, and the hoofbeats of the monkeys on both sides of the bank echo endlessly. The sound of the ape's hooves is still echoing in my ears, and the brisk boat has sailed past the endless mountains.

3. Appreciation

The three words "between colorful clouds" in the first sentence describe the high terrain of Baidi City and prepare the whole story for the dynamic movement of water boats moving fast. Without describing the extreme height of Baidi City, it would be impossible to reflect the huge gradient difference between the upper and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The terrain of Baidi City is so high that it reaches into the sky, so the following sentences describe the speed of the boat, the short duration of the trip, and the busy ears (the sound of apes) and eyes (the Ten Thousand Mountains) to greet and see off, and then they all come together. "Caiyunjian" also describes the morning scenery, showing the great weather from darkness to light, and the poet hurriedly bid farewell to Baidi City at this moment of dawn with excitement.

The words "thousands of miles" and "one day" in the second sentence contrast the distance of space with the duration of time, which is obvious at a glance; the beauty lies in the word "huan" - "Return" means return. It not only shows the poet's joy of traveling "thousands of miles" in "one day", but also faintly reveals the joy of being pardoned. Jiangling is not Li Bai's hometown, but the word "Huan" is as friendly as returning to his hometown. The word "huan" is expressive in the dark and is worth pondering carefully.

The third sentence is even more magical. In ancient times, "high apes often roared" in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. But why can't we cry anymore? We might as well think of the experience of riding a fast car on a tree-lined road on a long day in midsummer, listening to the cicadas chirping in the trees on both sides. The cicada is not one, the tree is not one, and the sound is not one. However, due to the speed of cars and people, the sound of cicadas and the shadows of trees become "one whole" between the ears and eyes. This is probably the sound of apes and the shadow of mountains when Li Bai left the gorge. The situation felt. How happy and excited the poet is on this boat that is like an arrow off the string, going straight down the current! When Gui Fu from the Qing Dynasty read the poem, he couldn't help but admire: "The beauty lies in the third sentence, which can make the spirit of the whole head fly over."

In an instant, the "light boat" has passed the "Ten Thousand Mountains". In order to describe the speed of the ship, the poet not only used the sound of apes and mountain shadows to set it off, but also added the word "light" to the ship itself. To put it bluntly, the boat is fast, of course he is stupid; but the word "light" has a different meaning. The Three Gorges has rapids and dangerous shoals. When the poet went upstream, he not only felt the weight of the boat, but also felt even more sluggish, "Three mornings on the ox, three twilights, too late. Three dynasties and three twilights, and my temples turned into silk."

Now as we sail down the river, the boat is as light as nothing and its speed can be imagined. And once the "Ten Thousand Mountains" that are "extremely dangerous" are passed, the boat enters a smooth road, and the poet's pleasure of going through all the hardships and dangers and regaining his footing is self-evident. These last two sentences are both a description of the scene and a metaphor, an expression of personal mood and a summary of life experience. They are inspired by things and are exquisite and unparalleled.

The whole poem gives people a sense of sharpness, uprightness, and ethereal flying. However, we can only appreciate the boldness of his momentum and the sharpness of his writing style, but cannot get enough of it. The whole poem is filled with a kind of passion that suddenly burst out of the poet after going through difficult years. Therefore, in the majesty and speed, there is also pride and joy. The pleasure of a fast boat makes people far away.
