One is Lyric Scenery, Fresh and Graceful Music (a series of poems of China literature), and Zhu Ziqing once praised Yu Pingbo's poems. His views are very insightful. Yu Pingbo's works melt snow, the river turns green, the willows turn green, and the white geese both play in the water. People slowly stroll on the bridge with their weather and feelings, which is picturesque and gives people a feeling of spring back to the earth and vitality, which is refreshing. It can be seen that the author is very good at capturing the typical scenes and rich artistic conception in early spring, and can get twice the result with half the effort. As the author himself said, writing a new poem, "said a part, but the meaning covered all" ("Three Conditions of Vernacular Poetry").
At the same time, the author also described and narrated the unfortunate experiences of ordinary people and expressed deep sympathy for the working people at the lower level. In the second and third paragraphs of this poem, with a heavy heart, the author describes and narrates a peasant woman who lives in Jingxi. A half-year-old child is crying with hunger and tells people sadly that the Hutuo River flooded last year, drowning her husband and two sons, leaving her family ruined and helpless, so she had to sit by the bridge and beg for a living. Such a tragic scene is really hard to see and hear. "Hurry up, I can't bear to listen more." It is the expression of the author's feelings. However, one year later, the water in Hutuo River is still so green and clear, which is unfair to the lower working people! The sentence "the sun shines on the river, clear and bright" is a clever expression of pity and grievance for the victims, but it is written with great grace.
It can be said that this poem by Yu Pingbo is a masterpiece with lyrical scenery, harmonious scenes and "fresh and graceful singing". It should also be noted that it is no accident that Yu Pingbo was able to write this poem that sympathizes with the unfortunate experiences of the working people at the lower level, which is inseparable from his idea that poetry creation should be written for life and for the common people (reductionism of the bottom evolution theory of poetry).
Second, it has a simple, solid and free and easy style. Yu Pingbo believes that the theme of new poetry should not only "explore the lives of ordinary people", but also "return to simplicity and oppose simplicity" (ibid.). He said, "Carving is stale and decorating is fresh" (three conditions of vernacular poetry).
His poem "Spring Water" is unpretentious, easy to understand and unadorned. The structure of poetry is also natural, flexible and free and easy.
Although the whole poem is divided into four sections, the number of words in each section and sentence is different. Eight sentences in the first section, four sentences in the second and fourth sections, and six sentences in the third section; There are three sentences, five sentences, six sentences and seven sentences. The uneven level is full of emotion. This kind of irregular free verse has greatly broken through the shackles of classical poetry that pay attention to levelness, rhythm and antithesis. Yu Pingbo thought that poetry should not be the palace of aristocrats, which was his attempt to return poetry to the people.
Third, the words are refined and elegant, and the syllables are harmonious. Although Yu Pingbo advocated the popularization of new poetry, he advocated drawing materials from civilian life and folk tales. The style of poetry should also be civilian, absorb the beauty of folk songs in form, and "there is no rhyme at the end of the sentence". However, he also attached great importance to poetry, thinking that "words should be accurate, sentences should be elegant and clean", "syllables should be harmonious and appropriate" and "melody should be faltering". In his view, poetry is "literature expressing aesthetic feeling", "vulgar words should never express lofty ideals" and the words should be "complete and beautiful" (ibid.).
His poetic theory is fully embodied in the poem Spring Water. Look at the first sentence of this poem: "May 9th, June 9th, look up and see the willow. The wind blows away the ice and the river is as green as wine. Two geese are swimming in the water, and everyone is walking slowly on the bridge. They all said,' Spring is coming, it's really a good climate'. " When you recite it, it is not only catchy, with harmonious syllables and cadence, but also uses words to make sentences, which are very precise, elegant, vivid and beautiful. In particular, the words "the wind blows away the ice" are like a colorful painting of spring returning to the earth. They are beautifully written and impressive. At the end of the poem, the words "the sun shines on the river, clear and bright" are very elegant, concise, abrupt and powerful.
Yu Pingbo's "Old Poems are very clever", and the wording of these two sentences obviously absorbs the advantages of classical poems, which is particularly implicit and memorable.
In a word, when the new literature movement flourished, Yu Pingbo's poem Spring Water appeared in the literary world with a brand-new look and a devastating trend, which undoubtedly gave a strong impact to conservatives who opposed new poetry and set a banner for the creation of new poetry.
