Poetry appreciation

Donne wrote some religious poems. In these poems, he explored his inner world and expressed his views on religion and even life. Death, don't be proud is just one of these poems.
This is an Italian sonnet. The opening sentence of the poem is abrupt, expressing ridicule and contempt for death. Death is the end of life. Many people show extreme fear of death and associate it with dark hell. However, in Donne's view, death is nothing to be afraid of. He regards death as sleep, which is the only way to "eternal awakening". Death is just a process from limited life to eternity. This idea is not unique to Donne, because in Shakespeare's famous inner monologue "To be or not to be" in Hamlet, Shakespeare once compared death to sleep according to the western religious thought. However, such an incisive irony of death is an incompetent and proud image, which may only appear in Donne's works.
This poem is more reasonable than lyrical.
