The half-cycle autumn moon of Mount Emei casts its shadow into the water of Pingqiang River.
The clear stream flows towards the Three Gorges at night, and I miss you and go down to Yuzhou without seeing you.
It’s another bright moonlit night, but the old friend is no longer there. I can only write poems about the case and look at the stars and the sky.

When will the bright moon appear? Ask the sky for wine. I wonder what year it is today in the palace in the sky? I want to ride the wind back home, but I'm afraid it's too cold in the high places. Dance and clear the shadow, how can it be like being in the human world?
Turn to the Zhu Pavilion, where you will find a low-rise house, and the light will make you sleepless. There shouldn't be any hatred, so what's the point of saying goodbye? People have joys and sorrows, separations and reunions, and the moon waxes and wanes. This is a difficult thing in ancient times. I hope that people will live long and travel thousands of miles to meet Chanjuan.

A bright moon rises on the sea. People far away in the world look at the moon like me and miss each other. Passionate people complain about the long nights and miss their loved ones throughout the night. I extinguished the candles and loved the moonlight in the room. I put on my clothes and felt the dew getting heavier. I can’t give you this hand full of moonlight, so I’d better go back to sleep and hope to meet you in my dreams.

Zhang Jiuling (678-740), courtesy name Zishou, was born in Qujiang, Shaozhou (now Shaoguan, Guangdong). He was a famous prime minister and important poet during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. He was upright and wise, and his poetry style was simple and powerful. He contributed to reversing the trend of poetry in the early Tang Dynasty. Later generations often referred to him as Chen Zi'ang. His twelve poems "Gan Yu" are mainly expressive, allegorical about current affairs, and have profound thoughts.
