The only poem describing "small bridge and flowing water" is "Tianjingsha·Autumn Thoughts".
Original text: Withered vines and old trees, dim crows, small bridges and flowing water, people’s houses, west wind and thin horses on the ancient road. The sun sets in the west, and the heartbroken people are at the end of the world.
Translation: Withered vines, old old trees, crows at dusk, flapping their wings in Tianjingsha·Qiu Si, landed on the bare branches. The delicate and unique bridge, the gurgling water, and the low and dilapidated thatched huts make it seem more peaceful and warm. On a desolate ancient road, a thin and haggard horse carried an equally tired and haggard wanderer from a foreign land, hesitating in the cold and bleak autumn wind of a foreign land. The sunset is gradually setting, but for those who are out there, where do they want to go? Where is your hometown? Thinking of this, how can a wanderer in the world not feel heartbroken!
Creative background: Ma Zhiyuan was keen on fame when he was young, but due to the high-pressure national policies implemented by the Yuan rulers, he never succeeded. He lived a wandering life almost all his life. As a result, he was depressed and frustrated throughout his life. So during the journey, I wrote this Yuan song full of sorrow and hatred - "Tianjingsha·Autumn Thoughts".
Appreciation: This poem is very short, with only five sentences and twenty-eight words in one sentence, but it depicts a desolate and moving picture of the autumn sunset in the countryside, and accurately conveys the sadness of the traveler. Bitter state of mind. This successful composition embodies the artistic characteristics of Chinese classical poetry in many aspects.
