Howard/kloc-started writing at the age of 0/5. Three years later, when he was a student at Howard Payne College in Brownwood, he wrote his first story: The story named "Sword and Tooth" was published in Mystery Story 1925 in July and Mystery Story 1926 in April. 1928 In August, Howard began to write a series of stories about Solomon Kane. Kane was a cruel and fearless Puritan. He is adventurous and has been to many strange places in the world, including some abandoned dark ruins and primitive cities in the African jungle. These stories also prove Howard's best skills-the description of the city built with huge stones in the ancient world, and the rendering of the original fear and wizard atmosphere in the maze under the dark tower and vault, which other writers can't copy. These stories also mark Howard's progress in describing bloody conflict, which has become a typical content in his works. Like other heroes in his works, Kane was conceived by Howard in his teens.
Howard has always been a young student who is keen on ancient Celtic and distant history. His series of works "Shadow Kingdom" was published in1The Story of the Mystery in August, 929, and these series of works about prehistoric stories also made him famous. His early works describe the ancient period of human history, such as Atlantis or Lemuria, and the story of Kul, the king of Roussillat, is the core figure. In February of 1932, The Story of the Mystery, Howard published Phoenix on the Sword, which is also the first Conan series story from Simiri. This series introduces a period before human history was recorded about 15000 years ago. Howard later created Conan's world with meticulous space and strict logic, which was widely welcomed by fantasy readers.
At the same time, Howard also wrote many stories about the early Picts and Celts, including the famous Bran Mak Morn leader series. No reader will forget the frightening but fascinating story of "Worm of the Earth" in June1932+065438+1October. He also created some other classic fantasy stories, including unforgettable skull and face series, and some original stories in modern background, such as black Ca-naan, which has a certain regional background and spreads in the southern United States, where there are many mosses, dark places and pythons. Outside the realm of fantasy, Howard is equally prolific and versatile. His keen interest in sports-which may be related to his love of rough power and conflict-prompted him to create a professional boxing hero sailor Steve costigan, whose adventures in distant and unfamiliar places attracted countless readers. Howard's novellas about the Eastern War are extremely exaggerated, but he has created more and more western life: Breckenridge Elkins, for example, is more adept and tends to show his fully familiar background.
Howard's poetry-grotesque, belligerent and bold-is as famous as his prose. His poems absorbed the essence of folk songs and epics, and his beating rhythm and vivid images made his poems unique. Many of his poems are quoted in his novels. It is a pity that Howard's poems and songs have not been published so far. It is hoped that these works of Howard will be edited and published in the future. Howard's character and achievements are unique. He is keen on the primitive world in the barbaric frontier era. In that world, deception is replaced by courage and strength, and strong and fearless races are fighting bloody battles. All his stories reflect this philosophy. No one can describe violence and blood as convincingly as he does. Those words describing the war scenes show his expertise in military skills.
Howard's real talent is not limited to this. If he can live longer, he may reach the peak in creating such serious literature as his favorite southwest folk epic.
It is difficult for us to accurately describe what makes Howard's novels so striking, but the real secret lies in his unique self-style. He will not really condescend to any profit policy. Even if he seems to compromise with greedy editors and mercenary critics, his inner frankness and strength will break this bondage and let him integrate his own style into his works. Howard rarely creates empty and lifeless characters or environments. Before the end of his works, he always showed his experience and understanding of life in his works regardless of popular editing strategies. Howard is not only good at describing scenes of conflict and slaughter, but also makes readers feel ghostly fear and suspense. Only authors who are very strict with their works can create such works, and Howard is such a person. Such a real master has disappeared, while a few mercenary literati continue to make up fake ghosts, vampires, spaceships and mysterious detectives, which is undoubtedly an irony. Howard and his parents live a semi-pastoral life in a village in Cross Plain, Texas. Writing is his only job. In literature, he prefers rough descriptions to fine language. Jack London is one of his idols. Politically, he is a liberal, and he opposes any form of injustice. His greatest hobbies are sports and tourism, and the latter makes his writing full of reflection on history. Howard is not good at humor, but on the one hand, he has a keen irony intuition, on the other hand, he is very warm and sincere. Although there are countless friends, Howard does not belong to any literary faction. He will communicate with other writers in the field of fantasy with great interest, but only E Hoffman Price's versatility has left a deep impression on Howard.
Howard is six feet tall and has a strong body like a born boxer. His later weight was about 195 pounds. Enthusiastic about these qualities, he did not accidentally create this famous figure-fearless warrior-explorer: Conan from Simiri. At about 8 am on June 1936+0 1, Howard got into his car and shot himself after learning that his mother could not recover. Since then, he has never regained consciousness and died around 16 that afternoon. His mother died the next day.
Howard's untimely death at the age of 30 was a tragedy, and fantasy novel couldn't even recover quickly from such a blow.
Howard's library has been collected in Howard Payne College, which will form a center for collecting his books, manuscripts and letters.
