Why do you live in poverty and the road is endless? When there is chaos, it is the same as when it is quiet. Although his family is in a war zone, his brother and nephew often practice rituals and music. The shadow of bamboo on the window shakes on the desk, and the sound of wild spring flows into the inkstone pond. Young people work hard all their lives, and don't waste time and effort. ——Tang Dynasty·Du Xunhe's "Ti Di Di Nephew's Book Hall" Ti Di Di Nephew's Book Hall What's the point of living in poverty and the road is not endless? Translation
Although I live in a simple house, my knowledge has not decreased. I am still the same as before, even though there is war outside.
Although there is a war in my hometown, my brother and nephew are still receiving the enlightenment of Confucianism.
The shadow of the bamboo outside the window is still swaying on the desk, and the ink in the inkstone seems to make the tinkling sound of wild spring water.
Efforts made when you are young are important things that will last a lifetime. Don’t relax your efforts at all in the face of the passing time. Appreciation
The first couplet narrates that although the nephew has not entered officialdom, he can abide by etiquette and study diligently in times of chaos. The poet uses this to describe the unique spiritual outlook of the owner of the library, and his praise is beyond words. He abides by the moral norms respected by Confucianism and attaches great importance to moral cultivation. Even though his family is in a war-torn country, he still has to "always practice etiquette and music." In contrast, the diligence and studiousness of Ming's brother and nephew even more clearly shows his outstanding noble character. The neck couplet is written by someone about the scenery of the study hall: the green bamboos swaying outside the window, the shadows are reflected on the book case, and the spring water gurgling in the distance flows into the inkstone pond. Combining vision and hearing, we can imagine his brother and nephew studying hard at their desks and plowing ink in an inkstone. The last couplet is a word of encouragement to the nephew, urging him not to waste time and study. Creation background
