Argument
Yuan Yongping
On a cloudy day, pigeons fly from one building to another.
They have a painful coincidence,
Like the reflection of dead branches on the concrete steps in autumn,
Noisy and entangled——
Landing. She was carrying her luggage in the dark corridor
Hearing some strange noises
Recalling the horror and hysteria a few minutes ago
Playing a short piece in her head Fugue and
attempt to wait for the dawn.
Look at the doves stretching all night now
Winter disappears outside but I love you.

The title of this poem is "Quarrel", and the subject seems to be a couple. However, the poet did not write about the process and results of the quarrel, but turned his attention to broader things: pigeons, trees, and buildings. It is these common sights of daily life that resolve painful arguments and the trauma that follow them into a single gaze: pigeons flying across the buildings, from one to another. The appearance of fugue makes us seem to hear the process of quarrel, just like the fast and changeable rhythm and melody intertwined in fugue. Music, concrete steps and dead branches together comfort the poet, giving him the courage to see through the quarrels and alienation in the world, and wait for the next dawn for love. (Yi Ming)
