Portrait of Tang Gaozong Li Zhi
Emperor Taizong had many children, and Li Zongdi, who was young and honest, was not the candidate to inherit the great cause. But before the death of Emperor Taizong, Prince Li Chenggan and Wang Qi Li You rebelled successively, which made Li Shimin sad and disheartened, and gave birth to nine princes, Li Zhi, who passed on the throne to himself and raised him personally, which was later Tang Gaozong.
Perhaps, in Li Shimin's mind, he lacks great talent and ability to govern the country, which can be improved through education. However, without a kind heart, he certainly can't extend his kindness to all the people in the world, and it's hard to become a king of a country.
At the beginning of Li Zhi's reign, he relied heavily on Sun Chang Wuji, Chu Suiliang and other ministers politically. Although there was no big mistake, he never grew up to be a wise monarch. It was not until later that a famous heroine in the history of China came to Li Zhi's side that Tang Gaozong's ruling career changed dramatically. This woman is Wu Zetian who later became a generation of queens.
As for Tang Gaozong Li Zhi, people generally regard him as a conformist emperor. To put it more clearly, people are more interested in the stories between women in his harem than in his achievements. You know, Tang Gaozong and Li Zhi inherited from their father Li Shimin, not only the land of the Tang Dynasty, but also the harem beauty that Li Shimin loved before his death!
Li Zhi's poetry creation flourished in the Tang Dynasty, which was the most prosperous period in the history of China. From emperors and generals to ordinary people in cloth clothes, he can write several poems to express his feelings, which is related to the open folk customs and clear political system at that time. Among many emperors who love poetry, Tang Gaozong and Li Zhi are the representatives.

Li Zhi, a veritable Confucian son of heaven, studied under his father, Li Shimin, Emperor Taizong, and achieved great accomplishments in poetry and calligraphy. Although later generations generally commented on his weak personality and limited ruling ability, Li Tang's prosperity in the post-Jiangshan Zhenguan era mainly depended on the wise and courageous Wu Zetian, but no one can deny Tang Gaozong's achievements in literature.
At the beginning of Li Zhi's accession to the throne, due to the long-term intrigue between the queen and the emperor for the favor, Li Zhi, who was disheartened, turned her feelings to Wu Zetian, the gifted scholar of the first emperor of Ganye Temple, and often expressed her affection for her poems, complaining about the suffering of lovesickness.
After Wu Zetian returned to the palace, she quickly wiped out the two most difficult opponents in the harem, Wang Huanghe, and became the mother of a country in the Tang Dynasty on camera. With the help of the marquis of Wu, Emperor Gaozong finally had the courage to confront the powerful ministers who had been in power for a long time, and gradually disintegrated the consorts represented by Sun Chang Wuji and Chu Suiliang. At this point, he finally rearranged the mountains and rivers left by the former emperor.
During this period, the level of Li Zhi's poetry creation has also been greatly improved, and many poems can reflect the historical scene of the prosperous times at that time. For example, a poem "Prince Naifei and Princess Taiping come out" vividly describes the grand occasion of the marriage between the emperor and his daughter through wonderful brushwork, while "Daxiong II" describes the great victory of the Tang Dynasty in the First World War against Japan when Emperor Gaozong was in power.
During the reign of Emperor Gaozong, the Tang Dynasty had the most vast territory, the most prosperous economy and the fastest population growth. In this important historical period, both Li Zhi and Wu Zetian made indelible contributions.
