Ye Junjian:
China translation
Ye Junjian is the first translator in China who translated and systematically introduced Andersen's fairy tales from Danish. He is famous in the literary world for translating Andersen's fairy tales in Danish.
Among the nearly 100 existing versions of Andersen's fairy tales, Ye's version was rated as "the best" by Danish experts: "Only China's version () introduced him (Andersen) to readers as a great writer and poet, maintaining the author's poetry, sense of humor and vivid visual language, so it is the highest level of translation."
1988, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark solemnly awarded Ye Junjian the "Danish Flag Medal" (Andersen also won the "Danish Flag Medal" for his fairy tale creation achievements), making him the only translator in the world who won this honor for Andersen's fairy tale translation. This is the only precedent that Andersen and Ye Junjian won the same medal for a work as writers and translators.
