Cheng, 198 1 was born in Xie Zhang Cun, Levin Town, Jingmen City, Hubei Province on February 4th, and graduated from rime Middle School, and was admitted to China Renmin University. After graduating from college, he worked as a literary editor in a provincial newspaper for a long time, and 1994 joined the Chinese Writers Association. In the same year, he visited the United States at the invitation of Djerassi's resident artist program, and immigrated to the United States as an "outstanding talent" with his family in May 1998. He used to be the news editor of World Journal, a major Chinese newspaper in the United States. He is now the vice president of the American Chinese Literature and Art Association in San Francisco, the responsible editor of the quarterly American Chinese Literature, and is studying for a Master of Arts (MFA) degree in the Creative Department of San Francisco State University (SFSU).

Cheng is one of the main representative poets of the "Academic Poetry Movement" with great influence in 1980s. He began to write prose in the early 1990s, and now he has become a well-known prose writer in Chinese mainland and North America. He has been engaged in writing for more than 20 years, and has written poetry collections, such as rainy season is coming, the door is not open, Cheng Jueju, Shi Li, the rhyme of spring, English-Chinese comparative poetry collections, and the blade of paper. Prose Collection: Candlelight Prayer, TOEFL China, International Trouble, Time Difference of Mind, Records of a Farmer's Son's Village; The novel "American Stage"; News editor (deputy editor-in-chief) Starlight Witness-Chinese Art Festival, etc. Since 1983, his poems and prose works have been included in about 100 anthologies of China.

Cheng's Poetry and the Translation of Contemporary Poetry in China (in collaboration with Professor Richard Terrill) was published in Northwest Review, Tampa Review, New Orleans Review, Chicago Magazine, American and European North Dakota Quarterly, California Poetry Quarterly, Sino-American Review, Trafika and other English literary journals. His translation of contemporary American novels and essays has been published in Lotus and other publications.

Cheng won the following major literary awards:

The main academic research works about Cheng's works include The Sense of Green Hometown, edited by Liao (Sichuan Literature and Art Publishing House), which contains his monograph He said softly, the earth, my home, with about 20,000 words. Born for Truth (Southwest Normal University Press) contains Cheng's prose monograph The Earth and the Mind, with about 10,000 words.
