Church question 79. How to help new believers?

Tell them more witnesses-whether they are their own witnesses or others' witnesses, it is very helpful for new believers. Because ordinary new believers have limited knowledge and understanding of biblical truth, it is most appropriate to strengthen it with testimony.

2.

Help them cope with evil-try to help new believers cope with the evil they should cope with. If Christians thoroughly deal with sin at the beginning of believing in the Lord, their spiritual foundation will be solid and their spiritual growth will be sound in the future. Otherwise, their ability to resist temptation will be weak. The so-called "dealing with sin" is not just admitting that you are a sinner before God, but asking for forgiveness or compensation for anything that offends people and causes losses. However, it must be noted that it is not to force or replace him to confess, but to let him see the need and deal with it. Therefore, to help people in this respect, we can only follow the principle of prompting them to do it automatically, and don't overstep their authority and force others to do it.

3.

Teach them to start their personal spiritual life-new believers should start their daily life of personal prayer and bible reading immediately after they believe in the Lord. Most people spend their mornings praying and reading the Bible for a quarter to half an hour. If circumstances permit, it is best to spend a period of spiritual practice with him.

4.

Encourage them to testify to others. When a person just believes in the Lord, it is a big turning point in his life. If he is encouraged to testify for others when he has a big turning point, he may become a person who dares to testify for the Lord, whether he is timid or not. On the contrary, he may become a person who has been afraid to speak.

5.

Pay attention to whether they often attend parties-"never stop partying" is more important for new believers; However, people who bring new believers to regular church meetings should not rush into it. First of all, we must understand his environment. For example, some people have a heavy burden and it is impossible for them to attend every regular meeting of the church. We should only encourage them to attend some important church meetings, such as prayer and bible study meetings and Sunday meetings, so that they can realize that such meetings must not be absent. On the other hand, if a novice reluctantly attends every church meeting, it may actually make him afraid of the meeting and gradually feel that it is a "burden" of the meeting, but it is not beautiful. It is true that when a person has tasted the party and his heart is hot, he will come to the party even if he doesn't eat, without anyone's encouragement; But this is God's own work, not what we can do. We can only lead people to the Lord according to common sense.

6.

Introduce them to reading spiritual books and periodicals-parties must go to church, but spiritual books and periodicals can follow people everywhere. Listening is only "passive acceptance", while reading is "active acceptance". Readers have enough time to meditate and receive, and the benefits are of course more. Therefore, introducing new believers to read spiritual books and periodicals is indeed one of the ways to help new believers.

These are just general principles. In fact, many times when helping others, we should follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit according to our personal situation.
