Huang Tingjian tells us how to avoid vulgarity in writing!

Notes on the back of the book

Zeng, the floorboard of silk fabrics.

Teenagers use this [1] to beg for books, and the canal [2] but it is said that the old man has solved the book [3], so he came here. However, working in other places may not work.

To learn books, you should have morality in your mind [5] and learn from sages [5]. Books are valuable. If his spiritual mansion [7] has no journey, the political messenger [8] will not reduce his pen and ink, but he will be a layman.

I smell like a teenager, and a scholar-bureaucrat can do anything [⑩], but it's good and vulgar. Or ask a good question, the old lady said: it's hard to say. Think of it as a peaceful place, no different from the laity, and you can't take it away on big festivals? This is not a layman. Always be prepared for danger in times of peace, such as containing tiles? The layman doesn't know what's going on. Although Guo Heshan lives in Yuan? Resurrection is not easy for me.

This is a masterpiece of Huang Gu's calligraphy, and it is also a famous work in his later years. Facing the young man who came to write in the valley with a silk book, Gu also knew that he only heard people say that his handwriting was good, and he himself had no ability to distinguish between calligraphy and handwriting. Therefore, after rolling up books for teenagers, Gu wrote this postscript to clarify the essentials of learning calligraphy.

In Gu's view, learning calligraphy requires the reader to have noble moral sentiments first, and then reading sage articles, which have a deep foundation in traditional culture and their books are valuable. Otherwise, if he has no background in his heart, even if his handwriting is as good as that of Zhong You and Wang Xizhi, he can only be said to be a layman. Because, although his handwriting is beautiful, he has no ideological background and can only be regarded as a "scholar" at best, let alone a calligrapher. The valley believes that a scholar-bureaucrat can do everything in his life, but he can't fall into the stereotype. Once stained with vulgarity, his character is hopeless.

Finally, the valley set up a question and answer, further elaborated the difference between vulgarity and vulgarity of personality, and highlighted its moral standard. The valley believes that if a person only looks at his usual time, it is difficult to distinguish him from the laity; And once it comes to the critical moment of home country, this man can turn the tide, but he can't catch his ambition. This is a good man. If the sage's words that are always on his lips on weekdays are not implemented, it will be as worthless as a stone in his mouth. This kind of person will be helpless when he encounters the problem of right and wrong, and he is a complete layman.

At the closing ceremony, Gu said with great confidence: His calligraphy view will never be published. Even if Guo Tai or Dan Tao stood by his side after his resurrection, it would not change what he said.
