Introduce the poetic art of Baoying in Yangzhou.

Dream of the Millennium Grand Canal

The Grand Canal in China, like the Great Wall in Wan Li, is listed as one of the four magnificent ancient projects in the world, which is a great creation of working people in China and a large number of water conservancy experts to use and transform nature.

The Grand Canal starts from Beijing, China in the north and ends in Hangzhou, Zhejiang in the south, with a total length of 1, 794 km. It has a long history. In the 5th century BC, the Han ditch dug by the State of Wu made the Yangtze River water flow northward from the Han ditch near Yangzhou, and then entered the Huaihe River through Gaoyou, Baoying and Huai 'an, thus connecting the Yangtze River with the Huaihe River. In this way, after several generations of construction, until the Yuan Dynasty national political center moved to Beijing, in order to shorten the route from Beijing to Hangzhou and bypass Luoyang, the canal was forcibly changed into a straight line.

Of course, the Yangzhou section of the ancient canal is the oldest section of the whole canal! The ancient canal gave birth to the civilization and economic and cultural achievements of ancient Yangzhou. He can be described as the "mother river" of Yangzhou people. On this "mother river", there are beautiful legends, charming scenery and gorgeous poems.

There is a story like this: after Yang Di ascended the throne, in order to strengthen the political control of the whole country and make the materials in the south of the Yangtze River more convenient to be transported to the north, and in addition to his personal pursuit of pleasure, he did two things at the beginning: First, he built a new capital in Luoyang, called Du Dong; The second is to open a grand canal running through the north and south. Yang Di ordered the recruitment of more than one million people from Henan and Huaibei, and opened a canal from Luoyang Xiyuan to Yang Shan on the south bank of Huaishui, called Tongji Canal. Hundreds of thousands of Huainan people were recruited from Yang Shan to Jiangdu (Yangzhou) to dredge a "ditch" opened by Fu Cha, the king of Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period. In this way, the waterway transportation from Luoyang to Jiangnan is much more convenient. After the canal was completed, Yang Di went to Jiangdu, where he not only had a good time, but also put on a big play. In this way, under the leadership of Yang Di, the Yangzhou section of the canal was dredged and completed.

The ancient canal, about 1800 km, like a huge link, flows through dozens of cities across the country, nourishing the descendants of the Huaxia era along the river and gestating brilliant canal civilization. From the surging Yangtze River to the wide and calm Grand Canal, you are greeted by the shadows of ancient temple towers, graceful willows and small bridges with the characteristics of water towns on the west bank of the canal. What a poetic picture on the river, the fleet breaking the waves and the small fishing boats swaying on the river!

On this section of the ancient road of Yangzhou Canal, there are many gorgeous poems written by famous literati in past dynasties: Du Mu's "Spring breeze travels ten miles along Yangzhou Road, it is better to roll a bead curtain"; Liu Yuxi's "Qian Fan by the shipwreck, Wan Muchun in front of the sick tree"; Lu You's "Boat Night Snow, Guazhoudu, Iron Horse Autumn Wind Biography" and so on. These famous sentences through the ages depict the beautiful scenery of the Yangzhou section of the Canal.

From ancient times to the present, both scenery and legends have brought the best witness to the once prosperous Yangzhou section of the beautiful Grand Canal. Here, let's chase the Millennium Grand Canal!
