The representative writers of poetry in the early Ming Dynasty are Song Lian, Liu Ji, and Gao Qi. They all experienced the social turmoil in the late Yuan Dynasty and wrote some works with more practical significance. But soon, due to the Neo-Confucianism, the Eight-part Examination and the unprecedented cruel literary inquisition, which severely constrained the minds of literati, poetry creation fell into a lifeless situation, and the "Three Yangs" (Yang Shiqi, Yang Rong, Yang Pu) represented by "Three Yangs" emerged. The "Taige style" poetry school specializes in singing praises of virtues and whitewashing peace, and has dominated the poetry world for a hundred years.
