Comparison between Chen and Li Yu —— Appreciation of Chen's Poems

In the history of China for nearly a thousand years, many heroes and sages have emerged. Some of them fought bravely on the battlefield and made great achievements, while others were the pillars of governing the country. He has made outstanding contributions to the country and the country. Of course, there are capable people, and naturally there are groggy and incompetent people. Some of them have ulterior motives, plotting to usurp the country, and some take bribes and pervert the law to corrupt the country. However, there are two strange emperors in history. Although they are all kings of conquering the country, they all have extraordinary talents in poetry and songs. They are Chen in the Northern and Southern Dynasties and Li Yu in the Southern Tang Dynasty in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.

Let's take a look at Chen. He was born in 553 AD, his father is Chen and his mother is Liu Jingyan. He was the last emperor of the Chen Dynasty, so he was called Chen Houzhu. Like many incompetent emperors in history, Chen lived a luxurious and corrupt life. He only plays happily with concubines in the harem all day, regardless of state affairs. The Emperor Wendi Sui Wendi sent troops to attack the Chen Dynasty, thinking that there was a Yangtze River to rely on, but Sui Jun could not call it. As a result, it was not long before Jiankang, the capital of the Chen Dynasty, was breached, Chen was captured and the Chen Dynasty perished. Chen, such an arrogant and extravagant person, has a special liking for poetry and songs. Whenever he holds a banquet in the palace, he will ask his ministers to recite poems together. Therefore, he has made some achievements in this respect. The main works are Flowers in the Garden of Yushu and Poems of Three Women, of which eleven are ten.

Then Li Yu. He is the sixth son of Li Jing, the leader of the Southern Tang Dynasty. His name is Jia Cong, and his name is Shigemitsu. His name is Zhong Yin, and he was the last monarch in the Southern Tang Dynasty. Compared with Chen, although he is a little more diligent than him, he is not a good emperor. He is also a person who likes beauty and advocates luxury. However, his achievements in literature are much greater than Chen's. Whether writing poetry or painting, he is a handy person, especially his words, which are flowery in rhetoric, beautiful in artistic conception and sincere and strong in feelings. He is a rare poet. His major works include "The Waves of Sand" and "Yu Meiren".

Chen and Li Yu are such two strange emperors. As emperors, they made no achievements, but they made great achievements in poetry.

Chen Houzhu's Poems

It is what people call Chen, the last emperor of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. In 582 AD, Chen Jicheng succeeded to his father's throne. He stayed in the position of emperor for seven years. In these seven years, he didn't do a proper thing, nor did he promulgate any measures to govern the country. What he did, like those incompetent emperors in history, was to get together with the concubines in the harem all day, drinking and having fun. He never cares about state affairs, nor does he listen to ministers' exhortations and speeches. He is a veritable "king of national subjugation". The only useful thing he left to future generations was his poems.

Although Chen Baoshu is arrogant and extravagant, he doesn't know why. Like Li Yu, another king who conquered the country, he has a special interest in poetry. Whenever he called ministers for a banquet, he not only invited concubines from the harem to accompany him, but also sang poems against ministers. Therefore, over time, he created many poems. Representative works include "Pavilion Flowers after Yushu" and "Poems of Shrike Flying East". Among these poems, Flowers in the Garden of Yushu is the most famous.

Mainly describes the enchanting and gorgeous feelings of his concubines, which can be compared with flowers. All poems have these characteristics in art: first, they are good at profile description and strive for vividness; Second, the structure is compact, the front and back are taken care of, the people and the scenery are in harmony, and the scenery is beautiful. The tune of the whole poem is sad and sad. Although it later became synonymous with the voice of national subjugation, the artistic level of this poem is still very high.

If Chen Houzhu is not an emperor but a commoner or a minister. The evaluation of him in history may not be as bad as it is now, at least he will be a man who has made achievements in poetry.
