Stars shine
Dorothy Parker
Author: Dorothy Parker
Star, that gives a gracious dole,
The stars shine with friendly light
What am I to choose?
And where should I go?
Oh, will it be a shriven soul,
Ah, is that a repentant soul?
Or little buckled shoes?
Or, tiny buckle shoes?
Shall I wish a wedding-ring,
Can I have a wedding diamond ring
Bright and thin and round,
Flickering , small and exquisite
Or plead you send me covering-
Or please send me covering-
A newly spaded mound?
A freshly dug grave?
Gentle beam, shall I implore
Gentle beam, shall I implore
Gold, or sailing-ships,
Gold , and ships out to sea
Or beg I hate forevermore
Or beg I hate forevermore
A pair of lying lips?
Those lips full of lies?
Swing you low or high away,
You are swaying in the sky, sometimes far and sometimes near
Burn you hot or dim;
Sometimes shining, sometimes dim
My only wish I dare not say-
My only wish I dare not say-
Lest you should grant me him.
Let you promise me his Dreams
Dreams

Hold fast to dreams
Hold the dream
For if dreams die
If the dream disappears
< p>Life is a broken-winged birdLife will be a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly
Cannot fly
Hold fast to dreams
Hold on to dreams
For when dreams go
If dreams pass away
Life is a barren field
< p>Life will be a wastelandFrozen with snow
Heavy snow and ice
