Stream of consciousness novels began to be introduced into Australia. After Chester Francis Cobb (1899 ~ 1943), patrick white (19 12 ~ 1990) deliberately used the stream of consciousness technique in his novels and made outstanding achievements. Tree of Man (1955) and Eye of the Storm (1973) are all his successful works. His novels pay attention to the inner world of the characters and are also original in the use of language. Therefore, White won the Nobel Prize in Literature with 1973, becoming the first Australian writer to win this honor. Other famous writers include Christina Stead (1902 ~) and Seven Poor People in Sydney (1934). Hal Porter (19 1 1 ~) has a unique style and deliberately innovative words. In addition to short stories, his poetry creation is also excellent. Randolph Stowe's novels (1935 ~) are similar to White's in writing, but most of them focus on western life. Thomas Keneally (1935 ~) is a prolific writer with 14 novels and 3 plays. Christopher Kaush (1932 ~) is regarded as an excellent writer. Although his works are few, his style is fresh.
The most famous contemporary poets are Alec derwent Hope (1907 ~), Judith Wright (19 15 ~) and david campbell (1915 ~190 ~).
Drama has developed rapidly since the 1950s. The main playwrights are Alexander Buzuo (1944 ~), david williamson (1942 ~), Jack hibbert (1940 ~) and Barry oakley (19365438). There are more and more Australian plays in the theatre. Most of these plays focus on reflecting the real life in Australia, with a strong sense of the times, vivid language and strong national characteristics.
