Schubert chose Heine's poems to create 36 sketches depicting psychology, including Atlas, City and Twin, which are extremely dramatic and highly concentrated, and the clear and leisurely boat song The Fisherman's Daughter. One of Schumann's best vocal divertimento, Poet's Love, is also taken from Heine's poem Lyric Intermittent (1840). The song 16 in this divertimento shows an infinite variety of emotional colors: extreme depression (if you guess), sweet and sour memories, and quiet mood (did I hear that song?).
