Johann Strauss the Younger was attracted by a poem dedicated to lovers by the Hungarian poet Karl Isidor Beck, whose last line was "On the banks of the beautiful blue Danube." So Johann Strauss Jr. took this as the title and composed a beautiful chorus for publication.
