Why are squirrels called environmental experts?
Squirrels are small and agile animals. They live in trees most of the time. Squirrels have strong hind legs and their fur is gray, black or reddish brown. Squirrels usually have a long-haired tail, but there are also tailless squirrels. The newborn baby is naked, with no fetal hair and closed eyes. It takes 8 days for hair to grow up gradually, and it takes more than a month for eyes to open. It takes about 15 days for cubs to eat nuts and climb trees. Squirrels often collect a lot of fruits in autumn and bury them in the ground for the winter. But squirrels can't eat all the seeds they have planted. On the contrary, more than half of them are always buried in the soil. So the next spring, these seeds will germinate and grow into small trees. According to scientists' estimation, a squirrel will store 14000 seeds on average. You can imagine how much squirrel has contributed to the forest. So squirrels are environmental experts in nature.
