China's ancient poems are well-known. Why are few people interested in novels?

Personally, I think that the prevalence of ancient poems and novels is related to the advocacy of the authorities, political system and appreciation bias under the background of the times.

1, initiated by the authorities

There is an obvious feature in the ancient history of China, that is, once the authorities like something, some officials below the authorities will try their best to pick out what the authorities like and give it to the authorities. For example, China ancient ceramics, because the royal court staff liked them, various official kilns and folk kilns continuously produced some exquisite ceramics for the authorities to play with and use.

The prevalence of poetry in the Tang Dynasty, under the official advocacy, provided fertile "land" for the poets in the Tang Dynasty. For example, Li Bai, a poet, was directly appointed as a court official without the imperial examination because his poems won the favor of Tang Gaozong. Although Li Bai's official position was very small, being an official at that time still belonged to most of the resources mastered by aristocratic families, and it was difficult for civilians to stand out from the imperial examinations and occupy important positions.

Besides the poet Li Bai, there is also Bai Juyi. Bai Juyi became an official by virtue of his achievements and talents in poetry. It is said that He Zhangzhi, the imperial examination officer at that time, was very surprised after seeing the poems written by Bai Juyi, so he recommended Bai Juyi as an official.

2. Political system

The imperial examination system is the oldest political system for selecting talents in China. The examination content of the imperial examination system advocates classics and pays attention to the investigation of poetry. Therefore, ancient scholars all studied ancient poetry, so poetry prevailed among the majority of scholars. Scholars often take poetry as their friends, and people present will be invited to write a poem at the tea party.

Step 3 appreciate prejudice

Throughout ancient history, no matter the authorities, officials and literati, novels are regarded as literary works that are difficult to suit both refined and popular tastes and are not worth advocating, so few people care about novels.
