Original text of "Hurry":
The swallows have gone, but there will be a time to come again; the willows have withered, but there is a time to be green again; the peach blossoms have faded, but there is a time to bloom again. But tell me, wise man, why are our days gone forever?—Someone stole them: who was it? And where were they hidden? It was they themselves who escaped: and now here we are again Where?
I don’t know how many days they gave me; but my hands are indeed getting empty. Counting silently, more than eight thousand days have slipped by my hands; just like drops of water on a needle tip dripping into the ocean, my days have been dripping into the flow of time, without sound and shadow. I couldn't help but feel dizzy and burst into tears.
Although what has gone has gone, and what has come is still coming; how hurried is it in between? When I got up in the morning, two or three slanting suns shone into the hut. The sun has legs, and it moves away gently and quietly; I also follow it around aimlessly. Thus - when I wash my hands, the days pass by the basin; when I eat, the days pass by in the rice bowl; when I am silent, the days pass by before my gazeful eyes. I noticed that he went away hastily, so I reached out my hands to hold him back, but he kept flowing past my withholding hands. In the evening, as I lie in bed, he will stride over my body, fly away from my feet, in his agile way. When I open my eyes and see the sun again, another day has slipped away. I hid my face and sighed. But the shadow of the new days began to flash through the sigh again.
In these days that are flying away, what can I do in this world of thousands of households? I can only wander, I can only rush; in the rush of more than eight thousand days, I can only wander. Outside, what else is left? The past days are like light smoke, blown away by the breeze, like mist, evaporated by the early sun; what traces do I leave behind? How have I ever left traces like gossamers? ?I came to this world naked, and I will go back naked in the blink of an eye. But I can’t help it, why do I have to go through this life in vain?
You are smart, tell me, why are we living our lives? Gone forever?
Appreciation:
1. Writing background:
Mr. Zhu Ziqing's "Hurry" is a short and beautiful prose, and there are People think this is a prose poem, but judging from the author's inclusion of this article in his poetry and prose collection "Traces" published by Shanghai Yadong Library in December 1924, it can be seen that the author regarded this article as a prose work. Because the first volume of "Traces" is a new poem. The second volume is prose. This article was included by the author in his second series of prose.
This article has 541 words and is Mr. Zhu Ziqing’s first prose. The article was written on March 28, 1922, and was originally published in the 34th issue of "Jiushi Xinbao·Literary Tenth Issue" on April 11, 1922. Previously, Mr. Zhu Ziqing's works were all poems. At this time, Mr. Zhu Ziqing changed his poetry creation to prose creation. The reasons are: first, it is determined by the author's creative attitude, and second, the environment gave the author such a choice. Because the author faces the various changes in society and people as the times progress, he "does not want to grasp it from a distance, but wants to peel it off and look at it carefully." ① After the author looks at it carefully, he must explain it clearly, Naturally, prose is more suitable than poetry for the expression of Mr. Zhu Ziqing's inner world and the realization of his plain and natural aesthetic ideal.
Mr. Zhu Ziqing wrote the article "Hurry" in 1922. At this time, it coincided with the ebb of the May Fourth Movement. The author was disappointed with reality, felt depressed, and couldn't help himself anymore. But the author is just as Confucius said, "sorrowful but not sad"②, hesitant but not depressed. He pursues it persistently from the standpoint of "neutralism". He believes: "Various processes in life have their own independent meaning and value - every moment has the meaning and value of every moment! Every moment has its own appropriate position in the duration of time." ③ Therefore, he wants to "Step on the soil step by step and leave deep footprints"④ in order to obtain "satisfaction of the paragraph". In his light sadness, he reveals the author's inner complaint of injustice, which also reflects the common mood of intellectual youth during the ebb of the "May Fourth Movement". So I wrote the article "Hurry", calling on us to cheer up and seize the time and forge ahead.
2. Ideological Theme:
With rich imagination, through specific and vivid descriptions of scenes and a series of questions, the author not only vividly visualizes the invisible and intangible time passing by in a hurry. It shows and profoundly expresses the author's regret about the passage of time, the fear and sadness of "the days are short", and reflects the author's serious thinking on life issues, cherishing time and cherishing life, and not letting the days pass in vain. Don't let yourself go through this world in vain, implying that you should seize the time and forge ahead.
