First of all, we must look at the style of the novel. It depends on whether it is realism, romanticism, avant-garde novels or other genres. Teaching should be carried out according to the characteristics of different styles in order to grasp the key points of the text. Realistic novels should be a relatively important genre in high school. For example, Lu Xun's "Blessing". Since it is a realistic novel, its main feature is to reproduce typical characters in typical environments. Therefore, the typical environment here: Lu Town and the typical character: Sister Xianglin should be the focus of analysis. Analyze the broader meaning it represents. Of course, the most difficult problem in teaching long modern text reading is the lack of starting points and not knowing where to start. There are many solutions, and the decision depends on the teacher's personal education. However, the cooperative inquiry learning method advocated in the new curriculum is a good choice. You can ask a key question that can affect the whole body as a preview task. For example, students can be asked to think after reading the text: Who killed Sister Xianglin. Let’s discuss it in class. As for the knowledge of novels, the most basic ones are characters, environment, and plot (for realistic novels). These things are rarely tested directly in the college entrance examination. In fact, novels reflect social issues, trigger people's thinking, and enlighten people's thoughts. As Liang Qichao said, if you want to renovate the people of a country, you must first renovate the country's novels. The focus of novel teaching is to teach students to think. Only when they learn to think will their thinking continue to improve, and their Chinese literacy will gradually improve. For example, when teaching the article "Blessings", students should be asked to think about whether there is still a "Xianglin Sister-in-law" in contemporary society, and what are the similarities and differences between the contemporary "Xianglin Sister-in-law" and the "Xianglin Sister-in-law" written by Lu Xun. The most important thing about Lu Xun's novels is to express their contemporary significance.
The above are my personal thoughts. I am also a new high school Chinese teacher. Please correct me if I have any mistakes or omissions!
