What does Baihuatan mean?

Baihuatan is a characteristic park in Chengdu.

Baihuatan was originally named Chi. In the western suburbs of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, there is a thatched cottage of Du Fu, a famous poet in the Tang Dynasty. According to the Records of Scenic Spots in Shu, there is a Baihuatan in Huanhuaxi. At that time, a kind and hardworking woman washed robes for sick monks, and the whole water was full of flowers, hence the name "Baihuatan".

In 1950s and 1960s, Chengdu Zoo was built here with Baihua Bridge. Later, in the 1980s, the zoo moved northward, and Baihuatan Park was rebuilt and reopened for sightseeing.
