On December 12, 2008, the filming of the movie "Blonde" started in Lisbon. The day before, director Manuel de Oliveira had just celebrated his 100th birthday.
The film tells a modern love story using classical techniques; or it shows the process of disillusionment through the vigorous surge of love; or it is a joke of fate and a moral fable. Short, exquisite, restrained and melodious, it is worth savoring and savoring slowly.
This is Portugal’s national treasure director Oliveira. His main works were all shot in his later years. From the age of 82 until he was 102, he directed at least one film every year, carrying with him the beauty and sadness, questioning and tolerance that he cherished throughout his life, spanning two centuries and becoming the most unforgettable film at the Cannes or Venice Film Festival every year. Magnificent scenery. After that, he continued to make films until his death in the spring of 2015 at the age of 107.
The poems of Fernando Pessoa, also a national treasure of Portugal, also appear in the film. It was a private party where the hero and heroine attended, and a celebrity in Lisbon recited Chapter 32 of Pessoa's "The Shepherds". Judging from the subtitles, the poems in the film seemed inconsistent with the original work, so I opened Pessoa's poetry collection, turned to Chapter 32, and encountered the following verses - I felt that this was exactly what the centenarian wanted to say to everyone through the film:
All the misfortunes in the world come from us caring about each other,
Whether it is out of good intentions or bad intentions.
It is enough that we have hearts, sky and earth.
To ask for more is to lose it all and become unhappy.
