Take one of Shakespeare's works as an example to talk about its creative characteristics.

The Shame of Lucretius is one of Shakespeare's early works and one of the poet's famous works. According to Qiu Kean's Chronicle of Shakespeare, this poem was written in 1593 [2] (P 133). At that time, Shakespeare was still a rookie, and his reputation as a dramatist had not been fully established. In order to climb the nobility, gain support and gain appreciation, Shakespeare wrote two long poems, Venus and adonis and the Shame of Lucretius, dedicated to the young aristocrat at that time, the Earl of Southampton. These two long poems spread like wildfire at that time, spreading widely and having great influence. When Shakespeare was alive, various versions of this poem were printed as many as ten times, which shows its popularity. With the passage of time, literary historians pay more and more attention to Lucretius' humiliation and have a higher evaluation. Britten, a famous modern British composer, even wrote this long poem into an opera.

The story of The Shame of Lucretius is that in 509 BC, Prince Tacun of Rome raped Lucretius, the virtuous wife of his subordinate Keratin. Unbearable, Luklis told her husband and father the truth, called for revenge, and then committed suicide in a rage. As far as the ideological and artistic connotation is concerned, most literary historians think that The Shame of Lucretius is slightly better than Venus and adonis. There is no doubt that they all have some similarities with Shakespeare's early works. The detailed description of the criminal process, the strong exaggeration of the atmosphere of terror and the extreme exaggeration of extreme poverty reached its peak, full of sensory stimulation and sensational effect, which was probably one of the reasons for its popularity at that time.

The theme and artistic technique of The Shame of Lucretius are closely related to Venus and adonis, Romeo and Juliet and other early works. They all told the same story: a very beautiful and fragile woman (or man) was swallowed up and destroyed by some evil, barbaric, blind and terrible force. Lu Xun said, "Tragedy is to destroy the valuable things in life for people to see" (Re-discussion on the collapse of Leifeng Tower) [3] (P 192). Lucretius' shame is such a tragedy. The beautiful and kind Lucretius was swallowed up and destroyed by Takun's evil animal desire. If human nature is half a devil for a long time, then Lucretius is an angel in human nature, and Tacun is the devil in human nature. This poem focuses on the dark side of human nature. It reveals how the greedy lust of human beings has become a cruel and savage beast. The sharp conflict and opposition between human nature and beast, light and darkness, good and evil is the basic theme of Lucretius's Shame. In fact, the story itself is not complicated, and the development of the event is simple and clear. However, The Shame of Lucretius wrote 1855 lines, describing in detail various scenes, details, dialogues and characters' psychology. Shakespeare really tried his best to mobilize all artistic means. The images in the poem are like the bricks and stones that make up the whole building, which are worth pondering and appreciating. Here, like the "theme" in music (such as the "dominant motivation" in Wagner's opera), images appear again and again, intertwined with each other, forming an organic whole of poetic texts. The images in The Shame of Lucretius mainly include the following categories: (1) flame images; (2) Symbolic images of red (rose) and white (lily); (3) contrast images; (4) Military image of war and massacre; (5) Images of animals and nature. The use of images in this poem goes far beyond this, but five types of images are used most frequently, prominently and effectively.
